本研究は縄文時代の人・建物・景観復元の歴史学的・系譜学的調査によって「復元の文化史」を構築し、併せて現在進行中の復元実践当事者へのインタビュー調査をもとにした質的調査によって先史時代の復元プロセスを明らかにすることを目的としている。本研究は、先史時代の中でも日本列島の縄文時代に着目し、A）縄文時代の人・建物・景観復元に関する「復元の文化史」の構築、B）復元実践の当事者へのインタビュー調査による復元のプロセスの解明を目指す。2022年度はA）として、縄文時代の人・建物・景観復元に関する事例収集の充実を図った。人の復元事例は研究代表者が、建物の復元事例については研究分担者がそれぞれの過去の科研費研究等によって収集をある程度進めていたが、本研究では両者のさらなる充実に加え、景観復元の事例収集を開始した。B）の復元実践の当事者へのインタビュー調査は、人・建物・景観の復元事例について、それぞれ実施した。人の復元事例は歴史復元イメージ画家に、建物の復元事例は山梨県北杜市梅之木遺跡の担当者に、景観復元事例は岩手県一戸町御所野遺跡の担当者にインタビュー調査を実施した。既発表の先史時代建物復元に関する国際学会プロシーディング掲載原稿をもとにした学会誌原稿の依頼があり、これまでの研究の一端を国際的に発信することができた（1件）。本研究開始前から継続して行っている建物復元プロセスに関するエスノグラフィー調査の結果を紀要掲載論考として発表した（1件）。また、建物復元の北陸・東海地方における基礎的データ集を紀要掲載論考として発表した（1件）。これらは全て研究代表者・分担者の連名により英語で執筆・発表した。
