本研究は、「脱・人間中心主義」の視点から、広義のユルック（トルコ遊牧民）を主たる対象として人間-動物関係を詳らかにし、さらに現代トルコ社会を事例に、地中海・イスラーム世界における硬直した自然観を捉え直すことを目的とする。定住／移牧／遊動のユルック（トルコ遊牧民）を自認する人々を中心的な対象とし、彼らの人間-自然関係を人類学的に観察・分析することを通して、イスラーム世界におけるマルチスピーシーズ民族誌との接続可能性を探ることを目指すものである。初年度となる当該年度は、マルチスピーシーズ、環世界、人新生、などの概念を扱う関連先行研究を精読し、研究会に参加するなど概念部分のインプットを精力的に行なった。結果的にそれらが本科研課題の研究活動の中心をしめることとなった。理由は複数あるが、特に現地調査を年度末の３月に予定していたものの、前月２月のトルコ・シリア大地震に伴い、中止を余儀なくされたため、厳密な意味で本科研に関わる調査を実施することができなかったことは重大であった。とはいえ、当該年度に実施した別の科研調査の折に新たに形成することのできた、「現役ユルック」たちとのネットワークは、本科研の今後の遂行にとって大変重要な意味をもつものであることは疑いなく、その意味でも実りのある初年度であったと言える。当該年度の成果発表として、６月に日本文化人類学会で分科会内の個人発表を行なったほか、４項目を執筆した『イスラーム文化事典』（丸善出版、2023）、トルコのラクダ相撲用のラクダ飼養を題材とした章を寄稿した共著が出版された。
