ブータン王国タシガン県メラ村には、家畜のヤクをモチーフとした「ヤクチャム」など、希少な祭礼芸能が伝承されている。この祭礼芸能がいま、継承の危機にある。2010年には外国人の入境が許され、その後の自動車道路の開通や村長の交代によって激変した社会的環境は、コロナ禍の影響もあわせて、祭礼芸能の変容を加速させている。本研究では、それらの実態と、基盤となる信仰の実態を記録・分析するとともに、変容実態の記録と検証を行っている。令和４年度に調査を予定していた時期には、コロナ禍によってブータン側が渡航者受け入れを行わなかったため、現地調査は行なうことができなかった。そのため、リモートによる調査に切り替え、基本的に週に２時間程度のヒアリングを行って情報を収集した。こうして得られた情報をもとに、メラ村における祭礼実態の分析を実施。さらに同様の問題は、ブータン各地の祭礼芸能でも起きており、メラ村での調査を中心に据えつつも、ブータン各地での過去の調査データも踏まえ、ブータンにおける文化変容実態の全体像を検証する資料を作成しつつある。今後は、そのようにして得られた検証結果から、祭礼芸能の保護に貢献できる方法論を考察する。考察時には日本における保護事例とも比較を行い、日本・ブータンに共通する課題をも明らかにしつつ、最終的な提言を行う。具体的には、危機的状況にあるブータンの祭礼芸能の変容実態と、その要因となる社会的環境の変化とを民俗学の手法を用いて調査・分析を行い、画像・映像を併用した報告書を作成する。方法としては、現状を①形態的変容、②意味的変容、③縮小・休止・廃絶等に分類し、その要因を（a）伝承的必然性（b）社会的要因（c）精神的要因（d）活用的要因等に当てはめて分析を行う。
