本研究の目的は、異文化間老年介護において生じる社会的・文化的問題を、文化人類学、医療人類学、宗教学、社会学、日本語教育学といった学際的観点から明らかに、その解決策を検討するものである。2022年度は、愛知県内の協力医療法人の協力のもと、研究を実施した。同医療法人の看護責任者、インドネシアに関する責任者との研究会では、実際の事例をもとに意見交換を行なった。また、介護職に従事するため2022年に来日したインドネシア人9名の来日後介護研修を見学、記録するとともに、研修担当者から研修上留意している点、問題点等について聞き取りを行った。来日したインドネシア人介護職員のうち、4名のインドネシア人介護職員に対して、リハビリテーション病院での勤務に関する実態、来日後の暮らしにおける問題点についてインタビュー調査を実施した。併せて「老人観・身体観・衛生観」に関するアンケート調査、「日本語学習歴」に関するアンケート調査も行った。当初、困難が予想されていた宗教的価値観による差異から生じる問題は、比較的スムーズに克服されていることがわかった。彼らは、病院において基本的な環境整備を担うことが多く、目標は一人で全てをカバーできるようになることだという。通常は、日本人スタッフと共に行動し、職務上の問題は都度、当日の担当スタッフに確認するとのことだ。同病院責任者、同医療法人インドネシア担当者とも意見交換を行い、双方で貴重な発見があった。たとえば、通常、日本人職員が負担に感じることの多い入浴補助を、インドネシア介護職員たちは好きな仕事として挙げた。その理由については、なすべきことが明確で悩むこと、迷うことがないからだという。また、中部大学、愛知淑徳大学において、約400人の学生を対象に、「大学生の老人観・身体観・衛生観」に関する意識調査をアンケート形式で実施した。現在はその入力、集計中である。
