研究期間の初年度にあたる2022年度については、おもに文献調査によって、「大阪維新の会」「日本維新の会」の政党を比較する枠組みについての検討を主に行った。理論についての文献調査の対象としては、ヨーロッパ諸国の政党政治一般、ポピュリズムとポピュリスト政党、地域主義や地域政党に関する比較政治学、さらには主流派政党と挑戦者政党（challenger party）に関する文献等を選んで講読した。あわせて、本研究における主な対象事例である、「大阪維新の会」と大阪府・大阪市における政党政治と維新の会が与党をつとめる大阪の地方行政、そして「日本維新の会」についての先行研究に関する文献も収集して、講読した。その際には、とくに政党組織と党内のリーダーシップの特徴、そして争点設定の重要性について注目をして、整理を行った。地域政党の「大阪維新の会」は、大阪では10年以上の統治政党としての実績を有する。一方で国政政党の「日本維新の会」は与党に参加した経験がなく、挑戦者政党としての性格を有している。これらの２つの性質を備えていることについて、組織のあり方と争点設定とそのアピールの仕方に特色があると考えられる。地域政党の選挙活動の事例研究としては、2023年春の大阪府知事・市長のダブル選挙を照準に調査を行った。これらの成果については、2023年5月28日に獨協大学で開催される、日本政治法律学会での2023年統一地方選挙についての分科会で報告する予定である。

The literature survey of the theory focuses on the selection of documents related to party politics in general, party politics in different countries, regionalism and regional political parties in comparative politics, mainstream political parties and challenger parties.
