初年度（2022年度）は、中国、米国、米国の同盟諸国の経済安全保障（安全保障のための経済手段、以下ＥＳ）に関連する必要文献・資料の収集とそれらの読解が中心になった。しかし、デジタル通貨（デジタル人民元）のような新しい調査領域が生じたこと、米国の新たな対中政策が情報通信機器、半導体、希少鉱物資源などで次々と展開されたこと、そして、それらに対する中国および米国の同盟国の対応が激動したことなどもあって、必要文献・資料の選別作業も、またその読解（解釈）作業も予想以上に時間がかかった。とはいえ研究自体は比較的順調に進んでいる。初年度は、本研究課題の中核である中国のＥＳが関連する図書（共同執筆）および論文（単著）をそれぞれ１つずつ執筆した。当初は研究成果を海外学術誌に投稿し、海外学会で発表する予定であったが、コロナ禍による混乱以外に、国内出版社から研究課題の内容に合致した書籍の出版を打診されたこともあり、一冊の学術書として成果を発表することにした。既に出版社側との打ち合わせも終えており、2024年初旬の出版予定で精力的に執筆を進めている。最終的な完成前であるため、現時点では刊行予定書籍の詳細な内容説明は控えさせていただくが、ＥＳの様々な戦略類型を体系的に整理・分析するとともに、中国がＥＳをどのように駆使しており、それに対して中国近隣諸国や西側諸国がどのようなＥＳで対応しているのか（また対応すべきなのか）を考察するという本研究課題に沿った内容になっている。本研究課題の中核である対中共存（ソフトランディング）の可能性も視野に入れながら、多様な観点から「中国によるＥＳ」と「中国に対するＥＳ」を考察していく予定である。
