カリブ海諸国が、カリブ共同体（CARICOM）という地域機構として、かつての奴隷貿易、奴隷制、植民地支配に対する謝罪と補償を、英国やオランダなどに求めている現状と関連議論を追い、整理した。これまでの議論としては、歴史的不正義の是正の問題提起は、援助要求の外交カードの表れにすぎないという議論がある。また、現在のカリブ諸国における発展途上や貧困は、奴隷制のみが原因とはいえないという議論や、CARICOM諸国社会内の声も一枚岩ではないなどの指摘もある。しかし一方で、CARICOMが公式謝罪や賠償を求めて2014年に発表した「補償的正義の10項目計画」は、様々な派生的な動きを非政府主体や個人、そして政府にも及ぼしていることが明らかになった。2015年にはInstitute of the Black World 21st Centuryによる補償要求の国際大会が開催された。またSlavery Past Dialogueの諮問機関が作成したChains of the Pastは、2022年12月にオランダのルッテ首相が、奴隷貿易と奴隷制を「人道に対する罪」と捉え、オランダのかつての奴隷貿易と奴隷制について謝罪した契機となったと考えられている。BBCのジャーナリストであるLaura Trevelyanは、2023年に奴隷の子孫としてグレナダに謝罪をし、謝罪要求活動（Heirs of Slavery）に参加するようになった。このような動きは、歴史的不正義の是正の核心をめぐる議論にも発展している。英政府は、補償よりも構造的な不平等の問題へ取り組むとする。これには批判もあるが、「変容的救済」の考えに沿った根本的問題解決になりうると考えられると本研究者は位置づける。不平等の再生産を生む制度や言説の改革を通じてこそ正義は回復され、被害者と子孫の尊厳回復につながり、貧困は解決し得るということである。

The slave trade, slavery, and colonization of the United Kingdom are related to the status quo. This is a discussion of historical injustices and positive issues, and of requests for assistance. The development of poverty, slavery and the causes of slavery are discussed in detail. The voices of the various countries in the world are one rock. On the one hand, CARICOM has formulated a formula to apologize and seek compensation.
