近年、企業活動と環境配慮を両立させるために、企業の環境への取組（以下「環境経営」）が先進国をはじめとして増加しつつあるが、途上国の子会社に対象とした環境経営の実施要因やその効果についての検証が体系的に行われていない。本研究の目的は、ステークホルダー理論にもとづき、（１）日本企業のタイ現地法人はなぜ環境経営を実施するのかを、タイ市場の要求などの現地要因を具体化すること、（２）環境経営の実施によるタイ現地法人のパフォーマンスへの影響を解明することである。本研究の特徴は、大規模なアンケート調査を用いた定量的分析と半構造化インタビュー調査を用いた定性的分析を組み合わせて、問題の核心に迫る点にある。令和４年度は主に調査項目１について研究を進めた。具体的には（１）対象企業リストの作成、（２）アンケート用紙の作成、（３）アンケート調査を実施した。その結果、対象企業の約25%にあたる97社から回答を得た。加えて、調査項目２に関連して、アンケート回答企業に対し半構造化インタビュー調査へご協力いただけるかの確認も行なった。
