本研究では、経済成長に伴う所得の増加に応じた消費の変化が、各国の貿易パターンにどのように影響を及ぼし、その結果、国際貿易と各国の経済成長との間にどのような関係が生じるかについて理論分析を行う。そして、国際的なつながりが強化される中で、どのような政策が各国の経済成長にとって有効であるかを明らかにすることを目的とする。2022年度は、decreasing marginal impatienceとして知られる内生的時間選好を、消費の外部性の形で組み込んだモデルにおいて、所得格差と国際貿易が各国の経済成長に及ぼす影響について分析を行った。このモデルにおいては、自らの消費が時間選好率に及ぼす影響と他者の消費が及ぼす影響の大小関係が均衡の安定性と関わっており、前者が後者よりも大きい（小さい）場合には、初期に所得格差がある国同士の格差は拡大（縮小）することが分かっている。モデルにおいては、消費財として純粋な消費財と投資可能な消費財の2つを考え、所得の増加に応じてその消費パターンが変化する非相似拡大的選好を仮定したもとで分析を行っている。ここでは純粋な消費財を奢侈品として扱っているが、その奢侈品が資本集約的か労働集約的かによりモデルの分析結果が一部異なるため、実際のデータによる検証が必要となっており、現在、そのデータを集めている。また、モデルの動学的均衡経路についても分析を行い、その経済学的含意について検討を行っている。
