当該年度は研究期間の初年度であるため、研究計画に記載のとおり、まず一次資料を網羅的に収集することを活動の中心とした。具体的には、国立国会図書館、東京大学経済学図書館、九州大学附属図書館付設記録資料館などを中心に、研究代表者、研究分担者ともに資料を収集し、整理、複写などを行った。そうした作業のなかで、先行研究において利用されていない統計資料類、報告書類などを得ることができた。また、研究代表者と研究分担者との間で、本研究課題をめぐる論点について、複数回意見交換を行った。そうしたなかで、本研究課題は、戦後復興期石炭産業史を考察するにあたって、個別炭鉱経営史の積み上げによって、従来とは異なる側面を描くことを目的としているが、その目的のためには、まず戦後復興期における各地方（炭田）別の状況を把握し、今後の研究に先立つ見取り図を描くことが重要ではないか、という方針を得た。こうした方針にしたがい、当該年度に得られた資料に関する検討の成果も加味しつつ、戦後復興期における地方別の出炭状況の相違について、特に北海道諸炭田に焦点をあてて、考察を進めた。北海道諸炭田の復興が、他炭田と比較して遅いという点については既に指摘されていることではあるが、今回の研究では、さらに出炭炭種別の構成にも変化が生じていることを指摘し、それらの要因として、労働力編成の相違や、炭田別の送炭先が重要であることを見出した。その成果については、2023年3月に、九州大学において研究分担者全員出席のもと研究会を実施し、研究代表者が発表を行った。その場で得たコメントをもとにさらに考察を深め、同月中に論文を投稿している（2023年度に掲載予定である）。
