本研究の目的は、ボード・ダイバーシティの状況が投資活動の意思決定に与える影響を明らかにすることである。企業の取組が、社外取締役の招聘など「形ばかり」なのか、真に積極的であるかを考察する。「形ばかり」仮説の検証のためには、比較的容易に外部から招聘できる社外取締役におけるダイバーシティの状況と、実力が伴わなければポジション獲得が難しい執行役員におけるダイバーシティの状況を比較検討する。前者は投資活動や業績に好影響を与えることはないが、後者は好影響を与えるのではないかというのが現時点の仮説である。投資活動との関連性に焦点を当てるのは本研究の特色である。多様性の議論は企業における実際の活動と遊離しがちだが、取締役会での最重要意思決定事項のひとつである投資活動に与える影響は大きいと考えられるためである。本研究では、投資の実行だけではなく撤退や、投資機会がない場合の判断などにも範囲を広げて分析を行う。現状、既に初期的研究をまとめた査読論文が公表されており、現在はその分析をさらに広げて論文を執筆中である。
