採択決定後、コロナ禍で影響を受けた葬儀の事例調査に取り掛かった。事例調査は、日本とベトナムの葬儀がCOVID-19パンデミックの影響でどのような影響を被ったのかを、質的なアプローチで迫るために半構造化インタビューを行った。質問項目として、1.死亡者の名前、生没年月日、年齢、家族構成など、2. 死亡者のライフヒストリー、3. 死亡の原因、治療・入退院の経緯、4. 葬儀や四十九日などの、日程と内容、参加者について、5. もしCOVID-19でなければどのような葬儀をしたかったのか、心残りなど、などについて尋ねた。調査はベトナムで2回、日本で2回行われた。これらのデータは全文書き起こされ、英文対訳とともにデータ化されて、ベトナム側の共同研究者と共有されている。日本の葬儀については、もともと家族・親族・地域社会関係が脆弱であるために、家族葬や直葬が広がっていた。そこにCOVID-19による行動制限が直撃したために、葬儀がますます縮小したことが判明した。これにたいしてベトナムでは著しい経済発展と分厚い若年人口によって、近年葬儀は肥大化してきている。パンデミックによる行動制限は、「本来あるべき姿」とは大きく異なっており、家族・親族に心理的な影響を残したことが判明した。行動制限の解除は、葬儀の肥大化傾向に戻ると考えられる。日本の事例をもとに２０２２年９月に　ベトナム社会科学アカデミー東北アジア研究所主催の「ウイズコロナ時代における日韓台越の経験」において「日本の葬儀にCOVID-19が与えた影響」と題した研究報告を行った。これらのデータをもとにIntenational Sociological Association のWorld Congressへ 'Death under the Pandemic: From Simplified Ceremonies to Shrinking' を申請した。この申請は２０２３年６月にメルボルンで行われる大会において口頭報告として受理されている。
