本研究は英語学習に特異的な弱さを示す児童生徒に対し英語学習の弱さを早期にスクリーニングする方法の開発（評価法開発）とつまずきと背景的特性に応じた効果的な学習指導法の開発（指導法開発）を行う。評価法開発では、まず、これまでに我々が作成した方法（E-Screener）のブラッシュアップを図った。E-Screenerは英語学習の特異的な弱さを早期にスクリーニングするもので、トライアングル・モデル（Seidenberg and McClelland, 1989）に基づき文字/単語の理解を形態－音韻－意味の面から評価する。iPad版アプリで即時的にフィードバックできるのが特徴である。本研究では、より教育現場での利用性を考慮して短時間で簡便に実施できるよう問題を調整した。その結果、全7題、所要時間約15分の評価法が作成された。作成されたE-Screenerについて標準集団での得点分布を検討するために調査を行った。A県内公立中学校2校全67名が対象であった。その結果、得点分布の傾向として上限付近に中心があり得点幅が一定程度みられることが分かった。クロンバックαの値は十分に高く内的一貫性が保たれていると考えられた。また学年間に有意差が認められた。カットオフ値では得点分布や学年差から％tile値を用い学年毎に設定することが妥当と考えられた。学習指導法開発では、英語学習に特異的な困難さを示す生徒2名を対象として、WISC知能検査をはじめとしたアセスメントバッテリーから、つまずきと背景的特性を踏まえた指導を実践した。両名とも基礎的な英単語の読みから弱さがみられたことから指導ではフォニックス指導を基盤とし各自の認知特性に応じた工夫を行った。およそ20セッションの指導を行い、ポストテストでは英単語の読み・意味の理解で高い定着率を認めたことから指導法の効果が考えられた。
