本研究は、これまでのエネルギー環境教育の動向を再度洗い直し、エネルギー問題の中心軸の周囲にある従来型エネルギー・再生可能エネルギー・原子力エネルギーの3点を踏まえ、持続可能な開発のための教育（ESD）の枠組みの中におけるエネルギー環境教育の新たな位置づけの検討と、これまでのエネルギー環境教育の中心であった都市部の視点から地方の視点への移行に着目することにより、持続可能な開発目標（SDGs）および「ESD for 2030」を視野に入れた「地方型エネルギー環境教育」の在り方を提起することを目的としている。本研究の目的を達成するため、本年度はESDとしてのエネルギー環境教育の役割と可能性に関する基礎的な研究の整理と蓄積を進めた。特に再生可能エネルギーに関わるエネルギー環境教育の実践例について、次世代エネルギーパークを中心にした調査を行った。具体的には茨城県・和歌山県・大分県・鹿児島県において次世代エネルギーパークに登録されたエネルギー関連施設と、それ以外の再生可能エネルギー関連施設を訪問して聞き取り調査等を行った。その結果、次世代エネルギーパークが再生可能エネルギーを中心とした「地方型エネルギー環境教育」を進めていくための拠点として利活用できる可能性を再確認した。従来型エネルギーおよび原子力エネルギーについては先行研究等の整理のみで、実際に関連施設の視察をすることができなかった。これらのエネルギー関連施設での調査活動は来年度に実施する予定である。また海外における実践事例の収集活動として、台湾で中華民国環境教育学会の年次大会に参加した他、関連機関での聞き取り調査を行った。
