新型コロナウイルス感染症は、個人のライフスタイルや価値観を変容させるとともに、急速に進展したオンライン化は職住分離を可能とする社会環境を生み出した。これに伴い、都市部の住民を中心に、地方移住に対する関心がさらに高まっていることが様々な調査によって明らかにされている。本研究では、新型コロナウイルスをきっかけとする地方移住を『コロナ禍移住』と定義し、コロナ禍移住者の移住決定と適応プロセスを検討することを研究目的の１つとした。この研究目的を検証するために、2020年1月以降に新型コロナウイルスをきっかけとして地方へ移住したコロナ禍移住者を対象とするWeb調査を実施した。なおコロナ禍移住者の特徴をより明確にするために、同期間に地方移住した移住者（新型コロナを契機としない）を対照群として設定した。調査ではコロナ禍移住者307名、対照群118名から回答を得た。コロナ禍移住者が移住を決定した理由（自由記述）について、テキストマイニングによる分析を行ったところ、頻出語として「新型コロナウイルス」、「仕事」、「リモートワーク」、「生活」、「不安」、「リスク」、「家族」、「人混み」などの語が抽出された。次にコロナ禍移住者と対照群で比較を行ったところ、移住後の適応度については両者で相違は認められなかったが、居住地選択においては、コロナ禍移住者は地域の住みやすさ（住環境、治安、医療など）やソフトパワー（人間関係、伝統文化、教育など）をより重視する傾向があった。また新型コロナウイルスに対するリスク認知について、コロナ禍移住者と対照群でその高さに相違はなかったものの、コロナ禍移住者ではリスク認知と適応度の間に有意な正の相関が認められた。つまりリスク認知が高いほど適応度が高くなるのである。このことはコロナ禍移住者にとって、地方移住がリスクやそれに伴う不安を低減させる手段となっていることを示すものである。
