慢性ストレスが睡眠障害の主要な原因であることは、良く知られています。本研究の目的は、慢性ストレスに曝されている人々のストレスを低下させ、その結果、彼らの睡眠障害の症状を緩和することです。その際に、本研究では、慢性ストレスを低下させる方法として、ストレスに対するコーピング（対処行動）の柔軟性（coping flexibility）に焦点を当てます。本研究の目的は、「豊かなコーピングの柔軟性が慢性ストレスを低減させ、その結果、睡眠障害の症状も緩和する」という仮説を実証することです。今年度は、以下の研究を実施しました。①実験によるアプローチ：ストレス課題を提示し、課題に対するコーピング方略の変化と心理・身体的ストレス反応を測定しました。慢性的うつ症状を抱えている人々、慢性的疼痛を抱えている人々のデータと比較するために、課題、心理・身体的ストレス反応、コーピングの柔軟性の測定は、前回採択された研究で使用した方法と同一です。コーピングの柔軟性は二過程理論で提唱している方法によって測定しました。睡眠障害の程度は日常生活時における在宅時の脳波・FFT（小型脳波計によって測定：購入済）と、主観的な睡眠状態を測定します。使用する測定装置の信頼性に関するデータに基づき、脳波・FFTは、実験日より10日間前のうちの3日間、在宅時の睡眠中に測定しました。実験は縦断的に行い、第一回目の実験の6か月後、12か月後にフォロ検査をしました。②縦断的質問紙研究：　2種の縦断的質問紙研究を行いました。（a）人間ドックのデータを用いた研究：人間ドックを受診した人々を対象に、コーピングの柔軟性とストレス反応を測定するための質問紙（マークシート1枚）を実施ました。（b）労働組合のデータを用いた研究：日常のストレスイベント経験と心理ストレス反応、慢性的な睡眠障害の症状、コーピングの柔軟性などを測定しました。
