悪性骨軟部腫瘍の手術療法では、腫瘍、及び腫瘍反応層の外で切除を行う広範切除縁での腫瘍切除を行うことが必要である。悪性骨軟部腫瘍において、切除縁と再発率は密接に関連している。組織学的に高悪性度であれば2cm相当の健常組織をつけて切除すれば、再発率は7-13％であり、低悪性度では1cm相当の健常組織をつければ再発率は10％程度とされている。しかしながら悪性軟部腫瘍の頻度は非常に稀ではあるが、身体のいずれの部位にも発する可能性がある。主要な神経・血管などの組織に近接している症例では、切断術を含めた患肢機能を犠牲にする手術方法を選択することが多いが、実臨床では術後の患肢の機能温存を目的として、腫瘍の組織に接する部分の切除縁を縮小せざるを得ない症例も少なくない。この際、可能な限り腫瘍再発を予防する目的で、腫瘍切除の直後に潜在的に残存している可能性のある腫瘍細胞に対してエタノール処理を補助療法として行うことがある。エタノール補助療法は比較的安価な、組織毒性も少なく、簡便な手技であると考えられていることから、多くの施設で骨軟部腫瘍切除後に導入されている。しかしながら、腫瘍切除後のエタノール補助療法に関して骨軟部腫瘍領域での有用性及びその有害事象に関しては十分なエビデンスはなく、骨軟部腫瘍専門医による経験的なものであるという側面もある。本研究の目的は、エタノール補助療法の悪性骨軟部腫瘍に対する抗腫瘍効果、及び、局所の健常組織に対す組織毒性を検証することである。具体的には臨床応用を行うために、In vivoとIn vitroの両面でエタノール濃度の至適濃度の検証を計画している。
