本研究は、国立循環器病研究センター健診部による循環器コホート調査である「吹田研究」を母体として進めている。令和4年度は、新型コロナウイルスの感染拡大による影響を受け、歯科検診を予定通り実施することができず、歯科検診者数は0名であった。これまで収集した歯科健診データの合計は、ベースラインデータが2339名、フォローアップデータが1473名となる。これらのデータを用い、歯周病や咀嚼能力と、動脈硬化やメタボリックシンドロームなどの動脈硬化系疾患との関連について、以下の課題について解析を行い、明らかにすることができた。吹田研究の医科健診を受診した3771名を対象にアンケート調査を行い、歯数とメタボリックシンドロームとの関連について検討した。その結果、残存歯数が20歯以上の者は19歯未満の者と比較して、メタボリックシンドロームの罹患率が高いことが明らかになった。また、吹田研究の医科健診および歯科健診を受診した1472名を対象に、歯周病と動脈硬化との関連について検討した。その結果、歯周病に罹患している者は罹患していない者と比較して、動脈硬化の指標である頸動脈内膜中膜複合体（intima-media thickness）が肥厚していることが明らかになった。

This study is based on the National Circulatory Disease Research Center's research on circulatory diseases. In 2010 and 2014, the number of new types of dental infections was increased, and the number of dental visits was increased. The total number of medical and health care professionals in the United States was 2339 and 1473 respectively. The following topics are discussed in this paper: the use of drugs, dental diseases, chewing ability, atherosclerosis, and the relationship between atherosclerosis and diseases. The number of patients receiving medical care in Suita Research was 3771. The results showed that those with more than 20 teeth had a higher incidence than those without 19 teeth. A total of 1472 medical and dental visits were conducted to investigate the relationship between dental diseases and atherosclerosis. As a result, patients with peripheral diseases have increased their carotid intima media thickness.
