本研究の目的の１つは固定性インプラント義歯の歯冠部にクラスプを付与して維持するインプラントクラスプ義歯とインプラントオーバーデンチャーを有する要介護高齢者を対象とした横断調査（後ろ向き情報を含む）を実施し，インプラントクラスプ義歯やインプラント体にどのようなトラブルが生じているか，インプラントオーバーデンチャーと比較することである．研究代表者らが実施した要介護高齢者を対象とした横断調査では，インプラント体を口腔内に有する対象者15名中インプラントクラスプ義歯を有する患者は1名，インプラントオーバーデンチャーを有する患者は2名存在し，いずれも義歯やインプラント体にトラブルは認めなかった．また，口腔内に固定性インプラント義歯と可撤性義歯が混在した患者が2名，残存歯が重度の根面う蝕や歯周病に罹患している患者が3名存在したことから，介護現場において残存歯がう蝕や歯周病により失われ，追加で欠損補綴治療が必要となる症例が少なくないことがうかがえた．さらに，固定性インプラント義歯を有する13名はいずれもインプラント部に大きなトラブルはなく，介護現場においてシステム依存的なインプラントオーバーデンチャーへの積極的な移行はなされていないことが明らかとなった．研究代表者らは口腔インプラントを有する高齢者データベースを既に構築しており，ここからさらにインプラントクラスプ義歯とインプラントオーバーデンチャーを有する高齢者を抽出することが可能である．今後は，インプラントクラスプ義歯とインプラントオーバーデンチャーの有効性を比較するためにより詳細な情報を得るべく，データベースを元に新たに対象となる高齢者を抽出し，口腔内診査，規格化デンタルエックス線撮影，全身状態の評価，介護者への聞き取り調査を実施する研究を立ち上げ，倫理委員会への申請手続きを進める．
