臓器提供意思に関与する背景因子を、啓発ビデオを見る前後のアンケート調査回答の統計解析によって探索した。調査対象は看護学生と社会福祉介護大学生560名とした。啓発ビデオは胆道閉鎖症の幼女が肝移植で救命されすくすく成長を遂げる様子を母親のナレーション入りで作成した(14分間)。アンケート用紙は次の仮説の真偽を確かめるように共同研究者が協力して作成した。(1)啓発ビデオは、特定の背景因子を持つ者に対して提供者を増やす結果がある。(2)宗教心のつよい者、とりわけクリスチャンは提供者が多い(3)自分の死を直視する機会のあった者、自分もまた、いずれ死を迎える人間であると自覚している者は、提供者が多い(4)自分が移植を受けたい者は必ずしも提供しない(5)移植は医療とすべきでないと考える者は提供しない。調査の結果、次のことが判明した。(1)啓発ビデオは提供者を増やす効果がある。殊に提供の意思を明確にできない者に顕著な効果がある。家族に移植を受けさせたい。(2)宗教心のつよさ、宗教の違いは提供意思に関与しない(3)自分の死を肯定するか否定するかは提供意思に関与しない(4)自分の家族に移植を勧めない者、移植は自然の摂理に反していると考える者には啓発効果はない(5)啓発ビデオは態度があいまいであった者を提供者と非提供者のいずれかに意思をはっきりさせる効果がある。
