本研究は、多様な思想が混在するイスラーム初期社会の集団的自己形成過程を、「他者」性の照射としての「論駁（radd）」という行為から捉え直すものである。具体的には、8～11世紀の論駁書の分析から、様々なレベルでの「他者」との邂逅がどのような意味を持ったかを考察する。本研究は、「（1）8～11世紀に活躍した約4000人の学者の文献情報から論駁書の書籍情報抽出し、これらの時代の論駁-被論駁関係を示す世紀ごとの相関図を作成することにより論駁-被論駁関係を可視化する」、「（2）デジタル・ヒューマニティーズ（DH）の手法による各時代の論駁書の傾向分析」、「(3) 論駁書の内容が同時代や後代の学者らに受容・利用されていく過程の解明」という、三つの段階で構成される。本年度は1月1日からの採用であり、3か月間という短い期間でまとまりのある成果を出すには至っていないが、順当に研究の第一段階に着手している。具体的には、第一段階で予定されている8～9世紀の論駁書の書誌分析のうち、8世紀に著された論駁書をイブン・アル=ナディーム（d. 990）著『フィフリスト』から抽出し、著者の立場や書名から論駁の方向性（どの立場からどの立場への論駁か）を特定し、表にまとめている。8世紀の書誌史料は少ないが、それだけに当該世紀のムスリム諸学者らが自らの宗教・文化・歴史の輪郭をどのように捉えていたのかという研究は足りておらず、本研究は、イスラーム初期史研究におけるそうした不明部分を補うという意味で、意義ある研究となっていると思われる。また、研究の第二段階の準備として、ロンドンのキターブ・プロジェクトが提供するOpen ITI を中心にアラビア語論駁書のテキストデータをダウンロードし、DH手法によるテキスト分析の準備を進めている。
