项目摘要

今年度は世界情勢と円安の影響を受けて海外調査を取りやめ、現地スタッフに作業依頼を出す形を取った。現地での発掘調査や資料調査は半年以上前から許可取得のための申請を始めるため、今年度の夏～秋頃はちょうど円安が深刻だった時期であり、研究費不足の問題から研究代表者自身が現地へ赴くことを断念した。そのためPD計画にある２つの課題の内、私自身が資料調査を実施する必要のある蓋・高台付き碗のデータ取得に関して今年度は進んでいない。他方で、もう一つの課題である発掘調査も予定通りには実施出来なかった。これは調査対象国であるグアテマラ国立人類学歴史学研究所の規則によるものであり、調査責任者である研究代表者の不在における現地スタッフのみによる調査許可が下りなかったためである。しかし現地スタッフには現地人考古学者を含むため、対象や規模を変更・縮小し、発掘調査及び資料調査の実施を行った。この結果、テオティワカン様式遺物群の社会分布とその役割を明らかにするための研究はPD出願段階で当初予定していた内容とやや異なるが包括的な方向で予想外に大きく進展している。特に古代マヤ社会の階層を先行研究よりも精緻に細分することに成功し、そこで得た階層性と関連して様々な財の不均衡な社会分布の実態を明らかにすることができた。またそうした物質文化の在り方を数理モデルとして表現できるようになった点が大きな成果である。この数理モデルは時間や空間を超えて、例えば現代日本社会にも適用可能なものであり、人類史全体を通して通時的に同じ手法で研究することを可能にすると期待している。またこうした研究は、先行研究以上に統計学を含む数理的手法を具体的・積極的に取り込んだ新たな考古学の萌芽となると期待している。
