本研究では、新しい帯域管理方式として、アプリケーションあるいはユーザが要求するサービス品質を考慮しながら、呼の接続中にもユーザと網との間で帯域の再交渉をすることによって、効率のよい帯域割当を行う動的帯域管理方式を提案した。この方式では、獲得帯域に対するコストを用い、無駄な帯域確保を抑えることも考慮している。ユーザのサービス品質は効用関数によって定義し、ネットワークは効用関数を最大化するように帯域割当を行う。本研究では、提案した帯域管理方式をシミュレーションによって評価した。その結果、コストに料金制度が適用できる公衆網においては、提案した動的帯域管理方式がトラヒックの変動に対して柔軟な帯域割当が可能であり、有効に機能することを示した。また、有効な帯域管理を行うためには再交渉の期間と頻度にトレードオフがあり、その関係を明らかにした。特性の大きく異なるトラヒックとして、音声と動画像を同一リンクに多重化した際、必要帯域の大きな動画像は音声に比べ性能が劣化するため、そのようなトラヒックを収容するVPには予約帯域を設けることにより性能劣化を緩和することができることがわかった。また、コストに料金制度が陽に適用できない構内網においては、設定呼損率を満たすように帯域割当を行うことが可能であることを示した。本研究では、1本の固定容量の物理リンクあるいは固定容量のパスを評価対象としたが、今後はより一般的な複数リンクを持つネットワークモデルへ適用する必要がある。また、トラヒックの慢性的な増大などによりユーザのQoSが満足できない場合は、リンク容量を増やすなど、ネットワークの再構築を行わなければならない。そのようなネットワークプロビジョニングについても考慮していく必要がある。
