日本古代における、8世紀から9世紀にかけての地方神祭祀の構造・展開・特徴について考察した。主に六国史を用いて地方で国司が行う臨時祭祀と天皇が地方神に対して行う臨時祭祀の例を網羅的に把握し、両者の関係に注目した点に特徴がある。天皇の地方神祭祀については、神戸・神階の運用から考察した。その結果、9世紀においては、広く国司の臨時祭祀が存在し、必要に応じて天皇が国家における最高の祭祀執行者としてその祭祀を補完する構造を見出した。また8世紀段階と9世紀段階での時代差についても考察を深めた。その結果、8世紀段階では地方の祭祀事情に国司・天皇は積極的には介入していなかったと思われ、嵯峨朝を画期に、上記の地方神祭祀の構造は顕在化してくることを明らかにした。さらに、日唐比較を行い、日本の地方神祭祀の構造の特徴を検討した。『大唐開元礼』を主な史料として唐の地方官が行う地方神祭祀のあり方を中心に比較した。その結果、日本の場合、地方官（州官/国司）の祭祀事情に皇帝（天皇）が介入してくる構造自体が唐には見られず、日本の特徴であることを明らかにした。以上の研究は論文にまとめ、現在学術雑誌に投稿中である。また次年度の研究を見据え、10世紀以降の国司祭祀に関する史料収集について若干作業した。研究計画にも記載したように、六国史終了後の時代では史料収集に工夫と多くの時間が必要だと思われるからである。結果、やはり当該時期の地方の関係史料を見つけるのは容易ではないが、和歌集など意外な史料に関係史料が含まれる可能性があることを見出した。本格的な検討は次年度に行いたい。
