野生動物への餌付けは、世界各地で見られる人の野生動物との関わりである。一方で、餌付けは野生動物との多様な軋轢(例：過度な人馴れや人獣共通感染症の蔓延リスクなど)をもたらすことから、世界的に規制され始めている。我が国においても、各地方自治体において餌付けを規制する条例があるものの、人々は簡単に聞き入れはせず、継続して餌付けが行われている。法に代わる餌付けを防止する手段として環境教育が期待されているものの、「生態系や野生動物に対して餌付けがどのような影響を持つのか」という生態学的根拠の蓄積が未だ不十分であることに加え、「なぜ人々は餌付けをするのか」という人間・社会的側面の理解が乏しい。そのため、餌付けを規制する・防止する方策の目処は立っていない。これらの問題に対して、本研究では都市公園で餌付けされるエゾリスに着目して研究している。具体的には、日常的に餌付けをされるエゾリスの生態について、社会構造の変化、繁殖成績の個体差、遺伝的構造について多角的に評価している。また、日常的に野生動物（リスをはじめ、その他小型鳥類など）に餌付けをしている市民に半構造化インタビューをすることで、人々が餌付けをする動機やその背景について探索的に理解している。本年度は、繁殖成績および遺伝的構造に関するデータを収集した。遺伝的構造についてはデータ解析が完了しており、都市と自然環境下の集団間では遺伝的分化が生じていることが明らかとなった。引き続き、社会構造の変化に関するデータを収集する予定である。
