ある連鎖が独立した形態素として存在するのか、それとも単なる音韻変化の結果なのか、また統語構造との関係はどうなっているのか、といった問いは生成文法理論の発展において常に問われてきた。本研究では、音韻上、または範疇的に一見同一に見える連鎖の統語的特性とその実態的実現の異同という大きな研究課題を念頭に、英語過去分詞の2つの用法(受動・完了)の分布の相違を、現在分詞等と比較しながら分析、その結果、次の結論に達した。(1)受動過去分詞はChomsky(1993),Chomsky(1995:Ch.3)の極小理論の方式で、語彙部門ですでにそのような連鎖として登録されており、格照合を受けて認可される。(2)現在分詞はHalle & Marantz(1993)の提唱する分散形態論の方式で、統語部門における素性の束が形態構造における語彙挿入によって実際の連鎖に置換される。(3)完了過去分詞はAnderson(1992)などの提唱する過程に基づく形態論の方式で、語形成規則によって導入される。この結論に関して、次の2つの課題が浮び上がった。(1)そのようなhybridな形態論の立場は、Lasnik(1995)の動詞句削除に基づく分析(極小理論と分散形態論の適用)にもみられるが、適用される語彙的・統語的領域が十分に制限されない限り恣意的となり、言語習得等生成文法が説明をめざすところから逸脱する。(2)Chomsky(1995:Ch.4)は、極小理論を更に進展させ、D構造、S構造に続いてXバ-理論も破棄した上で合併という操作に基づく派生を提唱している。それに従うと従来のように統語部門の操作の顕在/潜在性をS構造によって区別することはできず、音韻・意味部門への分岐点は原理的には派生のどの段階でもあり得ることとなる。そのように進展している極小理論と本研究の結論の整合性・経験的根拠を明らかにする必要がある。

The development of the theory of generative grammar is often related to the relationship between the independent morphemes and the phonological results. This study focuses on the differences and similarities between the two categories of English past participles and the distribution of English past participles, and on the comparison and analysis of present participles. (1)Chomsky(1993),Chomsky (1995:Ch.3), the minimal theory of the way, the word department, the link, the entry, the case according to the recognition. (2)Halle & Marantz(1993) suggests that there is a pattern of dispersed morphology, a pattern of linguistic division, a pattern of prime bundle morphology, a pattern of word insertion, and an actual linkage substitution. (3)Anderson(1992), the author of this paper, discusses the basic morphological theory of language formation. This conclusion is relevant, and the second topic is floating on the top. (1)The position of hybrid morphology theory is opposite to Lasnik's (1995) basic analysis of verb deletion (application of minimal theory and decentralized morphology theory). (2)Chomsky(1995:Ch.4): The theory of minima is further developed, D structure and S structure are discussed. The operation of the unified language department is divided into two parts: the first part is divided into three parts: the second part is divided into four parts: the third part is divided into four parts: the fourth part is divided into four parts. The progress of the minimum theory and the conclusion of this study are necessary.
