Study on some factors influencing the financial balance of health insurance scheme

The Health Insurance Scheme for the whole Japanese population started in 1961. The scheme consists of many different schemes, reflecting the fact that the Japan's social insurance system has developed on a group-by-group basis centering on the insured's working place. Among them, the Society-managed Health Insurance has been finacially better-managed than the others.This study disucussed on the factors influencing the financial balance of 1570 societies in this scheme from 1974 to 1981, by analyzing 20 of 213 items obtained from the report on a financial balance.The results are summarized as follows.1) The ordinary finacial balance of each society is influenced by both "the type of enterprise" and "the type of society", while the former is more influential than the latter.2) According to the result of the correlation analysis among the factors, "the mean age of the insured persons" shows a high correlation not only with "the ordinary finacial balance of each society" but also with many other factors.3) "The number of insured persons" has not directly influenced "the ordinary financial balance of each society", but shows the finacial stability of the society.4) To show the synthetical character of each society, such factors as "the average monthly standard salary of the insured persons","the type of enterprise", "the type of society" and "the number of insured persons" are adequate in respecting of the total finacial balance.5) In excluding the confounding factors in the analysis, it can be demonstrated the fact that "the average monthly standard salary of the insured persons" and "the mean age of the insured persons" have a significant influence statistically on "the ordinary financial balance of each society".A comparative study between well-managed societies and poor societies in financial difficulties was conducted and some indicators reflecting a finacial management of a society were demonstrated.
