異種が単一の群れを形成する現象は混群と呼ばれる。競争関係にあるはずの異種が共存する混群は、利益と同時に不利益も享受しながら集団で生活する群れという形質の適応的意義を考える上で重要な現象である。アフリカに生息するアカオザルとブルーモンキーも複数の地域で混群をつくることが知られている。しかし、混群をつくらない群れとの比較がほとんどないことや、先行研究が行動生態学的なものに限られていることから、2種の混群形成のメカニズムはよくわかっていない。本研究では、ウガンダ共和国・カリンズ森林に生息するアカオザルとブルーモンキーの混群を対象に、これまでの混群研究では注目されてこなかった集団遺伝学的な立場からこれを解明することを目的とした。アカオザルとブルーモンキーは地域によって種間交雑することが知られている。この観察事実から、混群が遺伝的な単位として機能しうる可能性を考えた。混群を形成する集団において、過去に生じた交雑によって適応的な遺伝子（ゲノム）が選択的に浸透しているのではないか、また現在においても適応的な腸内細菌（メタゲノム）が種間で伝播しているのではいかという仮説を立てた。この仮説をカリンズ森林の混群集団で検証する。本年度は、カリンズ森林の混群をつくるアカオザルとブルーモンキー集団（RN群とBN群）内で示唆された、アカオザルからブルーモンキーへの遺伝子浸透について、第70回日本生態学会大会でポスター発表をおこなった。
