项目摘要

本研究の目的は、猫を愛する当事者にして、社会学研究者が、猫に関する社会学的知見を共同研究のなかで蓄積し、猫に関わりのある人々のネットワークを広げ、猫社会学を創設することにある。なぜ、他の動物やペットではなく、猫を研究する必要があるのか。それは、近年の猫ブームに代表されるように、猫と人間の関わりが他の動物やペットよりも深化していると想定できるからである。本研究課題は、そうした猫と人間の関係の深まりが、現代社会のマクロな社会構造の変容によって生起していると想定し、そのミクロなプロセスを、家族、感情、文化、社会運動などの諸側面に即して記述し、これを文明史的な社会理論によって解釈することを目指す。とりわけ、ペットと人間の関係を通して家族定義の変容を解析するペット家族論、ペットロスの深刻さや回復プロセスに注目する感情社会学、動物愛護や殺処分ゼロを目指した地域／全国的活動の展開を解析する社会問題の社会学、近年の猫ブームをファン文化の一環として捉える文化社会学、人間と機械や動物の関係変容を文明史・批判理論の観点から考察するポストヒューマン社会学などが理論的な枠組みとなる。これらを、混合研究として組み合わせ、猫に関する社会学的知見を総合化することが、研究期間内の目標となる。猫社会学の理論と方法を確立するためには、既存の専門領域における固有の問題関心、リサーチ・クエスチョンを明確化するとともに、それを適切な方法のもとで、有機的に関連付ける必要がある。そのため本研究課題では、混合研究法の枠組みを用いて、(A)猫を飼った経験がある人や保護猫活動を行う当事者へのインタビュー調査、(B)猫好きな人の社会的・心理的特性や活動の分析（Web上でのアンケート調査）、(C)猫ブームに関する言説や観念のテキストマイニング、(D)上記で得られたデータを理論的に解釈する解釈学的研究を4つの柱とする。
