In concert hail acoustics, auditory impression of music players on the stage is essentially important as well as that of the audience. On this point, basic investigations to make clear the favorable conditions for players have been carried out in this study by field measurements and laboratory experiments. This research consists of two main contents : physical investigation and psychological experiment. For the former study, special technique and equipment to measure the acoustic condition on a stage was contrived, and actual field measurements were performed in various type of concert halls. From these results, the constructions of impulse response corresponding to the architectural factors were investigated. In order to investigate the relationships between players' auditory impression and the acoustic conditions on the stages, two kinds of sound field simulation techniques have been newly developed in this study : one is multi-channel reproduction system set in an anechoic room and the other is binaural simulation system using a headphone. Both of these system were realized by real-time digital computing system. By using these technique, several experiments on such acoustic phenomena as early reflections from stage reflectors and long-delayed reflections from the rear part of the audience area were performed. As a result, it has been confirmed that the early reflections which are not clearly distinctive for general subjects could be effective for players. Concerning long-delayed reflections, it has been found that this kind of reflection can be beneficial if its delay time and strength are appropiate.
