本研究課題「公立図書館集会室の理念と現実の確執に関する歴史と現状の分析」の目的は、以下の2つである。(1)アメリカ公立図書館の集会室をめぐる具体的事件を取り上げて、アメリカ図書館協会が設定する図書館の基本思想との距離を測ること、すなわち理念と実践との確執を解明することである。(2)それを受けて、図書館の図書部門と集会室部門の思想的な乖離を指摘し、公立図書館としての思想的統合性を目指す必要性とそれへの障害について、学術的研究として論じることである。そのために本研究は宗教グループ、ヘイトグループ、反LGBTグループによる図書館集会室の利用を中心に考究する。具体的な課題は以下の5つである。課題1「ALA（アメリカ図書館協会）の基本文書の研究」、課題2「宗教グループの集会室利用」、課題3「ヘイトグループの集会室利用」、課題4「反LGBTグループの集会室利用」、課題5「図書館の思想的統合性」。本年度は研究全体の土台となる課題1「ALAの基本文書の研究」について、アメリカ図書館協会知的自由部（Office for Intellectual Freedom）が編纂したA History of ALA Policy on Intellectual Freedom（ALA Editions, 2021）を翻訳し、『アメリカ図書館協会の知的自由に関する方針の歴史』（京都図書館情報学研究会, 2022）として出版した。これは図書館や集会室に関する基本文書について、その現状と歴史を解説した公式の編纂物で、本研究の前提を据えるものである。具体的には、『図書館の権利宣言』の解説文である『集会室』、『アメリカの図書館における宗教』、『利用者主催の展示、ディスプレイ、掲示板』などが盛り込まれている。

The purpose of this research project "Analysis of the concept and implementation of the public library assembly room, its history and current situation" is as follows. Topic 1 "Research on Basic Documents of ALA (ALA Library Association)", Topic 2 "Utilization of Religious Library Association", Topic 3 "ヘ"Usage of the Gathering Meeting Room", Issue 4 "Use of the Anti-LGBT Assembly Room", and Issue 5 "Integration of Thoughts in the Library". This year's research project 1 "ALA Basic Document Research" was compiled by the Office for Intellectual Freedom (Office for Intellectual Freedom) of the ALA Library Association.
