本研究は、マクロ経済変動と、産業組織の変化の関係についての統計的規則性を、ミクロの事業所・企業レベルでの生産調整行動を通じて明らかにすることを目的とした。まず、機械産業を中心に市場変動の激しい例示的な品目を選定し、生産動態統計のミクロデータにアクセスした記述統計的分析によって、生産量の減少/増大に伴いハーフィンダール指数が顕著に上昇/下落する関係が多くの品目で明らかになった。しかし、生産量が減少した品目では、集中度の上昇には撤退が影響しており、産業内分散はむしろ減少していることも判明した。また、従来、マクロ・産業レベルでのみ確認されていた生産の季節変動と非季節変動の高相関を、事業所レベルでも観察し、更にミクロの稼働率データと結び付け、従来示唆されるにとどまっていた相関についての生産能力制約仮説に実証的支持を与えた。しかし、激しい産業組織的変化をもたらす要因として、近年の日本では、輸入の浸透が無視できない。そこで、生産動態統計と貿易統計の品目分類整合をHS9桁に遡って行い、企業レベルの生産に関する月次パネルデータセットを、テレビ・エアコン・時計の3品目につき構築した。国内生産の輸入価格弾力性の推定を行ったところ、集計レベルで推定値が大きく影響されること、同一産業内でも輸入品に近い低価格帯の財を供給している企業の方が輸入に対する反応が顕著に強いこと等が確認された。更に、輸入浸透について、雇用への影響を分析した。工業統計から再集計した粗雇用喪失データを用いるべく、貿易統計と工業統計の分類接合を全4桁品目で試みた。事業所の閉鎖を伴う粗雇用喪失に関しては相対的に強い輸入の影響を見出した。今後に残された課題としては、我が国企業による海外生産の拡大を考えると、逆輸入や部品貿易の影響について、本研究で構築されたミクロ生産データセットを活用して分析を深めていくことが重要であろう。
