项目摘要

本年度は夜間中学校に関する史料調査を継続し、必要な基礎資料の収集を完了することができた。戦後の夜間中学校に関しては法制上の位置づけが不明瞭だったこと、不就学・長期欠席に伴い就学が困難であった生徒に関する公的記録が少ないこと等を理由に、残された史料が乏しく、また個人所蔵や自治体図書館にしか所蔵されていない者が多く含まれる。本年度は、1950年代に数多く夜間中学校が開設されていた兵庫、大阪、奈良、京都に関して精力的に史料調査を進め、また神奈川県川崎市でも夜間中学校に在籍していた卒業生の聞き取りを実施した。次に、夜間中学校開設の背景として重要な被差別部落の不就学・長期欠席の状況及びそこから派生して誕生した夜間中学の実態について研究論文をまとめた。一つは、和歌山県で自治体が後押しして開設が広がった被差別部落の子ども会活動と提携した夜間学級の事例を取り上げ、夜間学級の存在が地域の差別－被差別の構造を組み換える役割を果たしていたことを明らかにした。もう一つは、神戸市の大規模な被差別部落の改善を目指して開設された夜間中学校で学んだ存命者の聞き取り成果の調査をもとに、オーラル・ヒストリーの手法を導入して研究成果をまとめた。さらに、隣接する研究領域を専攻する大学院生との共同研究に取り組み、その成果を国際セミナーにて報告した。筆者は、戦後の夜間中学校を生み出す前史として重要な戦前東京市で開設された貧民学校の事例を取り上げ、貧困児童を対象とする教育実践の課題を明らかにした。最後に、全国夜間中学校研究会の委託を受けて活動に取り組む「夜間中学史料収集・保存ワーキンググループ」（代表・浅野慎一神戸大学教授）に参加し、研究者と学校教員の共同作業に携わった。具体的には、全国の夜間中学校関係史料の所蔵状況をまとめた目録刊行の責任者を務め、様々な作業に取り組んだ。
