本研究では、第１に、精緻な史料調査により、婚姻の観点から１１世紀前後の時代状況を総体的に把握することを目指し、第２に、上述の成果を踏まえて平安朝物語の精読を行い、虚構の論理を浮かび上がらせることを目指している。第１の史実調査については、本年も引き続き国文学から歴史学へと研究の場を移し、史料解読の方法を学んだ。具体的にはこれまでと同様に、本研究で中心に据えている１１世紀前後に成立した古記録である『小右記』の精読作業を行った。３年間にわたるこの作業を通じて、複数の歴史史料の比較検討方法を習得し、平安時代の時代状況を多角的に把握することができたと考えている。第２の物語精読に関しては、今年度に発表した論文「若紫の髪削ぎ」がある。これは、従来、紫の上の結婚経緯と関連するとされてきた髪削ぎ儀礼を取り上げ、これまで言われているような成人儀礼としての意味を読み取れるか否か検討を加えたものである。具体的には、文学作品・歴史史料双方の調査から、当時の髪削ぎとは成人儀礼とは無関係であることを確認し、その上で、通過儀礼によるのではなく、自らの体験を通じて大人になっていった紫の上の造型の独自性を指摘した。また昨年度には、『源氏物語』の婚姻研究に関する成果を、書籍『源氏物語　虚構の婚姻』にまとめた。同書は、平安時代の婚姻慣習の実態を再び物語の文脈に戻すことで、婚姻の視点から『源氏物語』の虚構の方法を解明しようとしたものであり、歴史史料を博捜した上で文学作品の独自性を考察するという方法をとっている。内容・方法ともに本研究の集大成ともいえるものであるため、出版後、『源氏物語』研究者はもとより、歴史学の研究者の方々にも積極的に送付し、批正を請うとともに、さらなる検討を行うことを心がけた。なお、その甲斐もあり、今年度、本書が紫式部学術賞を受賞した。
