项目摘要

本研究の目的は、古代日本の地方での寺院・官衙の造営に際して、技術者の編成や労働力の投下がどのように行われたのかを捉え、それを可能にした背景を考察することで、律令制施行後の地方がどのように統制されていたのかをみていくことである。具体的には、技術の動態を捉えやすい瓦資料を扱い、古代日本の境界地域の一つである西海道を対象とする。平成26年度は、豊前国の法鏡寺跡、法鏡寺遺跡、椿市廃寺、上坂廃寺、壱岐国の壱岐嶋分寺を中心とする諸遺跡を対象に資料調査を行った。以上の調査により、西海道各地の瓦の製作技法をより広い視野で比較することが可能となった。また、これまでデータ収集してきた大宰府出土の瓦資料と、西海道各地の瓦の比較を進めたことで、瓦生産における大宰府の影響を詳細にみることが可能となった。その他、西海道の瓦資料の評価を行うために、平城宮跡や正倉院など他地域の瓦資料の観察も行った。特に、本研究の対象時期に相当する正倉院瓦は、ほぼ完形の平瓦が多量に存在し、当時の平瓦の製作技法を明確に観察できる資料である。正倉院瓦には、製作技法の異なる桶巻き作りと一枚作りの両者が存在することから、そこで得られた観察結果が破片資料も含めた資料観察全般において、有効な資料となりうる。以上の資料調査をふまえて、西海道各国の国分寺を中心とした寺院造営の様相を復元すると、国ごとに大宰府の影響の程度や組織編成の様相が異なることが明らかになってきた。
