Pharmaceutical blister packaging is difficult to recycle, meaning millions of blister packs end up in landfill each year. Discarded medicine can also contaminate waterways (and ultimately food). Central Pharma are seeking to close the loop for blister packaging, in accordance with the Plastics Pact. We will create a circular ecosystem that collects waste blister packs for recycling. Our process allows recycling of these materials into new blister packs, with significant carbon, energy, and cost benefit compared to use of virgin material. It will also greatly reduce the amount of PVC and discarded medicine sent to landfill.
