SmUPS is an Smart Uninterruptible Power Supply with remote telemetry designed specifically to maintain connectivity for virtual ward, telehealth and telecare devices when deployed in a patient's home. There is an emerging need from the analog telephone (PSTN) switch off in 2025 where all connections will become digital only. The analog connection has line power separate from the household supply and digital connections do not. This will mean telehealth and telecare devices will lose connection in the event of a local power cut. SmUPS will provide a multi-hour power backup to maintain internet connectivity and allow these services to stay functional through supply power loss, or self-rationing or self-disconnection actions caused by fuel poverty (switching off in-use devices or the whole house electricity supply). This device will support the increasing use of private networks offering Service Level Agreements above the current, commercially available levels.
