RIDE (Rider planning Interface Design Evolution) is an ambitious and innovative project to design journey planning tools, data visualisations and interfaces to enable cyclists to confidently plan the perfect route for their ride, whatever the purpose of journey or experience of the rider.Safety and the perception of danger is the number 1 barrier to cycling today. By providing planning tools that allow riders to customise routes to their needs (for example speed vs avoiding traffic or hills) and clearly visualising that data to allow users to understand what they will experience along the route, RIDE can inspire confidence in riders, enabling those who already ride to do so more, and those who do not yet to feel empowered to do so.By encouraging more riding, RIDE can reduce the number of car journeys, reducing GHG emissions, pollution and congestion. By unlocking cycling for many, RIDE can also improve social equality by giving people freedom and mobility without depending on car ownership or public transport availability.
