PROJECT SUMMARY MOLECULAR GENOMICS CORE The overarching goal of the Molecular Genomics Core (MGC) is to provide Members with sophisticated genomic, transcriptomic, and epigenomic analysis of bulk and single cell samples to support exceptional, high throughput molecular, biological, epidemiological, and clinical science. MGC is a critical node of a highly integrated Core network with a seamless experimental pipeline with the Tissue Core (TC) and the Biostatistics & Bioinformatics Shared Resource (BBSR). This network provides comprehensive coverage from sample collection through statistical and informatic analysis, with an emphasis on designing highly tailored experiments, including platform choice and analytical approaches. This strategy facilitates informed implementation of precision medicine approaches to meet the research and clinical care needs of Moffitt Members. In support of its goals, MGC activities are organized into three Specific Aims: Aim 1: To provide experimental design consultation services. Aim 2: To provide high quality molecular genomics services. Aim 3: To provide education related to technological advancements in genomics. Over the past cycle, MGC supported 120 Members across all five CCSG Programs, representing a 42% increase in usage since the last renewal and resulting in 101 Member publications (21 in high impact journals) covering broad topics across the cancer research spectrum, including the tumor microenvironment, tumor heterogeneity, immune response to therapy, risk stratification, and circulating tumor DNA analysis. In FY20, MGC supported 54 Members across all five Programs (CBE 32%, CE 20%, MM 22%, HOB 2%, IO 24%), with 95% of those Members holding peer review funding. Overall, MGC successfully supports exceptional research of Members through a highly qualified and experienced staff, state-of-the-art facilities, laboratory automation, a wide array of molecular platforms, and education and training to drive field-leading discoveries in cancer genomics. Over the next five years, MGC will expand and reinforce its repertoire by providing state-of-the-art genomics and transcriptomics services with a focus on expanding the repertoire of single-cell sequencing platforms, developing spatial genomic technology, and automating routine capabilities to meet the current and projected needs of Moffitt Members. To support these endeavors, MGC will also acquire additional platforms and higher-throughput instrumentation. Finally, MGC will also expand its rigor and reproducibility initiatives, as well as its education and training programs for Members and their staff.
