英文摘要
Our high-streets are dying.Online and out of town shopping habits, combined with the pandemic, are creating a landscape of boarded up shop fronts in our towns and cities. We must address this immediately to fight the downward spiral of urban blight.New ways of thinking are needed to address this by repurposing these empty spaces quickly into exciting, low carbon, accessible retail experiences.Architect and founder of Urban XR James Lee Burgess has developed the POP.XR concept to do just this.POP.XR fuses contemporary sustainable architectural design with cutting edge mixed reality technology to provide a new way of bringing empty spaces on our high-streets back to life. The concept consists of three elements, a pop-up physical space combined with mixed-reality content, and an online platform . POP.XR is installed in empty high street shop units, bringing them back to life over-night. This approach brings together real estate owners and creators/sellers enabling them to design, curate and deploy a POP.XR experience in any vacant indoor space. The pop-up physical space is a flexible stand-alone, flat-pack fit-out that can be designed and constructed to occupy any empty shop unit. It has its own power source, lighting and screens for advertising. All content or stock for the physical fit-out is digital and overlaid onto the space using mixed-reality headsets (and tablets if needed). By having purely digital content in the store, it is possible to deliver completely new experiences for shoppers that include large-scale video content, animations, exploded 3d views, user interactions and a very wide choice of products. This allows content creators and retailers to tell immersive and engaging stories about their products never seen before on the high-street.The no stock approach also drastically cuts out any delivery logistics for the content, reducing road usage and carbon footprint.Sitting behind the pop-up high street experience is the POP.XR software platform that empowers real estate owners/retailers/creators to design their own modular shop fit out and advertise it to businesses, creators and designers who would like to rent space within the store. Creators can then curate their shop experience digitally based on the real estate owners 3d designs which can be interacted with reviewed via the platform. They can then agree a deployment date and time and rental fee.By fusing cutting mixed-reality tech and architectural design POP.XR is a vital tool in the fight against the death of the high-street.
