The UK automotive industry is facing challenges in securing a reliable battery materials supply chain due to increasing demand for electrification, geopolitical tensions, and region-specific strategic policies, raising concerns about self-reliance. Graphite is among the four critical battery raw materials, along with lithium, nickel, and cobalt. Anode materials account for 15-20% of a lithium-ion battery's weight, and traditional graphite anodes have limitations that need to be overcome.Talga has developed two product streams: a graphite-silicon composite anode material and anode materials from recycled graphite. These innovative products provide an environmentally friendly, cost-effective, and strategic supply chain of anode materials.The UK-Anode study will assess the feasibility of setting up an anode facility in the UK to cater to these product streams.
