英文摘要
This project uses an AI-driven software solution building on our already highly innovative digital dental scanning technology to address the diagnosis and management of tooth wear - a worsening healthcare problem that affects nearly half of the world's population (with a much higher percentage in older adults) and costs the global economy billions of dollars annually.Research into toothwear has increased exponentially in recent years and it is expected to rival dental caries and periodontal disease as a leading cause of dental pain and tooth loss. The cost to public and private healthcare systems globally runs into billions of dollars annually, a problem which will worsen as the world population ages and patient expectation to maintain their natural dentition increases. In the UK tooth wear is discussed at length by the Department of Health and Social Care in their publication Delivering Better Oral Health - an Evidence-based Toolkit for Prevention, stating "It is important to recognise that we do not yet have accurate methods for measuring tooth wear over time; however, rapid advancement of digital technologies such as intra-oral scans and registration may result in adjuncts for monitoring tooth wear progression in clinical practice alongside history taking and clinical judgement".Despite this aspiration, no workable solution exists currently and the specific expertise that Mimetrik possesses and will apply to this project offers the best chance of achieving one in a short timeframe. This will be of benefit to billions of people globally.
