The world needs the voice of children and young people (CYP) in processes that make decisions about the future. Fam Studio works with clients and partners in foresight and innovation projects where we see a growing need for equitable participatory research with CYP. While this type of research has many benefits for including authentic and relevant CYP voice, it is resource intensive and has some inclusion barriers relating to the need of active participant engagement.The Young Futures Imagination Toolkit in collaboration with UAL Creative Computing Institute (CCI) explores adapting AI image generation for use with CYP in participatory research through safety and usability innovations. This aims to revolutionise Fam Studio's participatory research capabilities with CYP by adopting generative, image-based AI technology. Through visualising their ideas during research activity and creating powerful outputs this will support clients with data driven decisions making for their foresight, strategy and innovation processes.The safeguarding and interaction innovations developed in this feasibility project, will be useful for the creative industries and all looking to engage CYP with emerging technologies.
