This project will develop a model of the process economics of BioSyntha's novel technology for synthesis of platform chemicals by fermentation of syngas made from lignocellulosic biomass. The model will underpin Biosyntha's business plan to maximise and extract value from its R&D. Syngas fermentation is in its infancy in the world and there is no readily available model for syngas fermentation processes. This project will assist in the development of this technology into full commercial production by aligning process parameters such as target product yields and production rates, with metabolic engineering objectives. Economic validation of the principle of converting syngas derived from multiple and flexible sources to platform chemicals by a fermentative approach, and comparison with alternate routes, will allow the company to attract further investment and to develop collaborative relationships with industrial partners.
