英文摘要
The software industry is moving to Cloud Scale applications using new software architectures pioneered by Internet leaders like NetFlix and Google. A key model gaining traction is the move to a microservices based architecture. Microservices are a method of developing software applications as a suite of independently deployable, small, modular services in which each service runs a unique process and communicates through a well-defined, lightweight mechanism to serve a business goal. Payara is at the forefront of this revolution, with our Payara Micro software. Demonstrated by our leading role in microprofile.io (http://microprofile.io/) an open collaboration with industry leading software companies and user groups including IBM and RedHat. One of the key challenges of a microservice architecture is the tracing of user requests through a collection of software components distibuted on the network. We are proposing carrying out innovative industrial research to investigate the technological challenges involved in recording, capturing and storing trace events at cloud scale. The goal of the research would be to identify solutions to the scalability, performance and high availability challenges required to build a distributed tracing SAAS. The results will feed info future development to extend the Payara Micro platform to offer tracing as a service to our and customers. This new tracing service would lead to a significant new business line generating recurring export revenue for Payara enabling us to invest in further innovation and jobs to remain at the forefront of this exciting new technology.
