The aim of this project is to examine the technical feasibility of integrating tactile mechanical devices into an innovative, low cost touch-screen panel technology. The objective of the innovation is to take current systems, for every-day appliances and environments that have only a single display and simple mechanical buttons and dials and replace them with a new and enhanced user touch-screen and tactile input experience, whilst also adding increased control functionality, at a price point that is competitive with existing solutions. This technology could be used in a range of sectors and applications, but is initially developed for Home Automation Controller markets, where users and consumers value additional tactile feedback and interaction from their devices, making their products simpler and more intuitive to use. This in turn will help make the advantages of Home Automation available to those whom it might otherwise be out of their technological comfort level e.g. the elderly and disabled. This project will produce a feasibility demonstrator of this industry-leading, novel technology for broad applications in markets including Home Automation Controllers, and will go some way to addressing the localised user interface requirements demanded by the Internet of Things (IoT) technology market.
