COVID-19 has caused the world to change immeasurably and people are more aware than ever before about how germs are spread and the day to day objects that they touch. Studies have shown that credit cards and cash are known to harbour many harmful bacteria and can spread disease. As the world moves on from COVID-19, it is important to try to keep items that are touched regularly by different people clean in order to set peoples mind at ease and to prevent the spread of disease. As the keypads on Card Payment Terminals are touched by many people every day, improving the cleanliness of these terminals will improve retailer / customer safety and confidence. We intend to design a safe, retro fit cleaning device that works with most Card Payment Terminals, keeping them clean and helping to stop the spread of disease. The Extension for Impact funding will allow us to protect our device through patent protection. Once patent pending status has been granted, we will then launch a PR campaign promote our device with a view to finding a suitable commercial partner who we can work with to take our device forwards to market. We will both refine our design work and look at adaption of our rapid cleaning technology for alternative potential markets. We will develop a robust commercial model to leverage our development to maximise the return on investment.
