CNR Services International Ltd delivers leading-edge engineering design services to a widerange of industry sectors. From concept generation and development, through the design andoptimisation of the product, to the effective integration into the manufacturing process, CNR'sdedicated team of specialist engineers, designers and scientists help customers achieve theresults they are looking for. There is a large global fleet of helicopters in service with a significant and acceleratinggrowth of new-build helicopters being added to the market over the next decade and beyond.A key element of helicopter manufacture and heavy maintenance is the accurate alignment ofthe helicopter’s transmission shafts. The methods used currently for this are manual and verytime-consuming.CNR sees an opportunity to design and supply equipment to automate these processesproviding users with a significantly quicker and more accurate method of aligning helicoptertransmission shafts than is currently available. If successful, the CNR-designed AutomatedTransmission Laser Alignment System (ATLAS) will have a significant market impact. This project will investigate the market to understand the commercial viability and potentialmarket for the CNR ATLAS system.Users of the ATLAS system will see significant process, operational and financial benefits by:reducing helicopter manufacturing costs and lead times; reducing helicopter maintenancecosts and lead times; reducing operational noise to the benefit of aircrew (health and safety)and passengers (premium ride perception); increasing the serviceable life of componentssaving costs and being environmentally beneficial. These benefits to helicopter operators, manufacturers and 3rd party repair and overhaulorganisations are the critical issues to be assessed through this project.
