Imetrum have developed unique IP that allows measurement of multi point movement fromvideo files more accurately than anyone else. Targeted at Material Testing applications for last7 years we have now identified a significant opportunity for developing a tailored solution forstructural monitoring applications such as tunnelling, bridge assessment and buildingperformance. This project will involve research into suitable hardware, and the appropriatesoftware modifications that are required for this application. Most significantly is the researchinto creating a new mechanical platform that will allow the camera technology to pan and tilt,as well as measure for and correct its own movement. The project will also look at methods ofself-calibration (turning pixel measurements into real engineering units automatically), andaddressing some of the environmental challenges of using the equipment outdoors over thelong term. This will allow the technology to monitor multiple images (and consequentlymonitor the movement of many hundreds of points) based on a 360° global view around thevideo camera position, providing a product that is able to offer some of the technicaladvantages that Imetrum’s core technology can provide, at a cost that makes it a viablesolution to the market. These technological advantages include:Being truly non-contactOffering sub-mm resolutionThe possibility of high frequency samplingA visual record to enable instant checking of measurements, and an intuitive user experience.This has the potential to combine the benefits of current technologies in this sector to take asignificant market share.
