英文摘要
Kudos will help science, technology and engineering researchers and institutions to maximisethe application and impact of their published research. For the first time, it will makeavailable a standard set of tools that all researchers and institutions can use, regardless of whohas funded or published their work, making it simpler and more efficient for them to shareand explain their work.Firstly, the tools will help them summarise their work in non-specialist language, supportingthe government’s open (public) access policies, and countering criticisms that the generalpublic cannot understand, and therefore does not benefit from access to, research. Thissimpler language is better suited to translation than the scientific/technical language of formalpublications, helping to broaden impact beyond the UK. The tools will encourage researchersto explain who benefits from the research and how (for example, economic, cultural or healthbenefits).Secondly, the tools will guide researchers on how to share their work using ‘social’ media(channels such as Twitter and Facebook, which provide a growing portion of readers ofresearch) and ‘traditional’ media (particularly, maximising the extent to which research iscommunicated to and by journalists, with the non-specialist summaries also helping toincrease accurate interpretation by the media). Sharing will be guided by innovative activityplans that will be customised to each researcher’s situation (subject area, career level, region;target audience; available time). Kudos will provide trackable links for use when sharingwork, and will for the first time bring together article-level usage statistics from differentpublishers so that researchers can see the growth in readership of their research that resultsfrom using the tools, helping to incentivise and reward their effort. Finally, Kudos will provide data to institutions and funders to help them track and evaluatethe impact of the research they support.
